Strategies to Feed your Toddlers Nutritious Foods
As our babies grow older, they become more independent and now able to choose what are they going to eat. Feeding toddlers has became a struggle to every mom in the world to feed their kids the right amount of nutritious foods every day. Let them Eat
According to 20 years and research working with families, Ellen Satter, MS, RD recommends a division of responsibility when feeding our children. Parents are responsible for deciding on what and when their children is going to eat and let the child take responsibility on how much they are going to eat. Meaning, parents doesn’t have to push or stress their kids about eating the amount they wanted to, hence, let the child eat the amount they wanted. Satter says that most eating problems occur when either a parent or the child crosses the division of responsibility.
Give them Regular Balanced Meals & Snacks
Avoid giving them leafy and green foods all the time. Create a plan for their regular meals, a study shows that children eating planned meals have more nutritious diets than those who don’t and consume fewer meals. You can provide them 3 meals and 2-3 snacks per week. Just avoid giving them food when they’re busy watching TV or playing and be sure to give them food at a central place – a kitchen where they can eat.
Eat with Them
We do not want them to get used to throw the foods we are giving them. It’s been a problem as they grow, they tend to become choosy about what to eat. Let’s eat with our child and be an example of eating the food. Make an effort to do this as much as possible. Beside on teaching them to eat, it is also a way to bond and to get know more your child.
Involve Them on Planning the Food Plan
They really love to help if given a chance. Involving them on planning and picking the foods to be eaten the whole week will make them more excited. Give them easy task in the kitchen and bring them in the grocery stores with you. Your children will likely to eat when they have participated in the preparation.
Dazzle Up the Preparation
You don’t have to be a gourmet specialist to create a snazzy platter for your kid. A simple cuts and chops of veggies and fruits will do! Serve him a colorful fruit smoothie instead of his old tooth glass of juice. How does this works? “We eat with our eyes,” say Liz Weiss and Janice Bissex, nutritionist and authors.
