Major Benefits of Breastfeeding
Since August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, let us give you the major benefits of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has been proven as the best way to feed babies. All mothers are advised to breastfeed after giving birth for it is more beneficial and inexpensive.
Good for the Baby
Breast milk is rich in Docosahexaenoic acid or DHA which supports the development and protects neurological function of the baby’s brain. In short, DHA increases the baby’s IQ. Experts advise mothers not to use cow’s milk as a substitute to feed infants, since at least 100 ingredients can only be found in breast milk. Breastfeeding for a year can help the babies to perform better as they grow older.
Babies who were breastfed for a year are also proven to have stronger defense against childhood infections such as ear respiratory and urinary tract.
Good for the Mommy
Some may think that breastfeeding will only do good to babies, but studies shown that mothers can also take advantage from it. Mothers who breastfeed for at least 6 months, are more likely safe from getting a heart attack or even breast cancer than those who already stopped from giving breast milk after a couple of months only. Breastfeeding can also prevent new moms from having postpartum depression which is an emotional complication after childbirth.
Never underestimate how good breastfeeding can be. At the end of the day, the love and care for your child should not be compromised no matter what. After all, smart parenting is everything!
